Reconfirming the Covenant

And the LORD spoke unto Moses
, "Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, you shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. You shall respect every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.
"Turn
not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molded gods: I am the LORD your God.
"You shall not defraud your neighbor, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not stay with you all night until the morning.
"You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shall not favor the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, in weight, or in quantity.
"You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not share in sin because of him. You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
"Do not prostitute your daughter
lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness.
"You shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
"Regard not them that have a connection with demon spirit's, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
"You shall rise up before the gray head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD. And if a stranger live with you in your land, you shall not oppress him. But the stranger that lives with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God."
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, "Again, you shall say to the children of Israel, whoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that lives in Israel, that gives any of his children unto Molech*; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
"None of you shall approach to any that is a near relative to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. Furthermore you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor's wife, to defile yourself with her.
"If a man also lie with a man, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Whoever mates with a beast shall surely be put to death.
"You shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: that the land, where I bring you to live there, spit you not out. And you shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them. You shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
"You shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. If you walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; then
you shall eat your bread to the full, and live in your land safely.
"And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. And you shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people. I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.
But if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments; And if you shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that you will not do all my commandments, but that you break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, tuberculosis, and the burning fever, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and you shall be killed before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and you shall flee when none pursues you.
"And if you will not yet for all this listen and obey me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.
"And if you walk contrary unto me, and will not listen to me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your highways shall be desolate.
"And if you will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
"And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when you are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and you shall eat, and not be satisfied.
"And if you will not for all this listen to me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will discipline you seven times for your sins. And you shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall you eat. And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.
"And I will make your cities waste places, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors. And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies, which live there shall be astonished at it. And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will live out a sword after you
. "Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate, and you be in your enemies' land
it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when you lived upon it.
"And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursues. And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursues: and you shall have
no power to stand before your enemies. And you shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. And they that are left of you shall pine away in their sin in your enemies' lands; and also in the sins of their fathers shall they pine away with them.
"And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
"If they shall confess their sin, and the sin of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness which they were unfaithful against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land."
And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying, "Let the children of Israel also keep the Passover at his appointed season
. They shall leave none of the lamb unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it."
" And Moses spoke unto the children of Israel
and they kept the Passover
in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
"Take
the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel; you and Aaron shall number them by their armies."
And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, "Who shall give us flesh to eat? We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic: But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes."
*Molech: The national god of the Ammonites whose worship involved child sacrifice.
