They Understood Not
And when Jesus disciples were come to the other side of the sea, they had forgotten to take bread. Then Jesus said unto them, "Take note and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread."
Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, "O you of little faith, why reason you among yourselves, because you have brought no bread? Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up? Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
"How is it that you do not understand that I spoke it not to you concerning bread, that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?" Then understood they how that he told them not to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
And Jesus came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man unto him, and implored Jesus to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when Jesus had spit on the mans eyes, and put his hands upon the man, he asked the man if he saw anything. And the man looked up, and said, "I see people as trees, walking."
After that Jesus put his hands again upon the mans eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every person clearly. And Jesus sent him away to his house, saying, "Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any there."
And it came to pass, as Jesus was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, "Who say the people that I am?"
They answering said, "John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again."
He said unto them, "But whom say you that I am?"
And Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
And Jesus answered and said unto him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto you, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
From that time on began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be unto you."
But Jesus turned, and said unto Peter, "Get you behind me, Satan: you are an offense unto me: for you savor not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."
And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, "Whoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever will save his life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
"Whoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
And Jesus said unto them, "Truly I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."
-The Kingdom Comes with Power-
And it came to pass about
eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his clothing was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elijah: Who appeared in glory, and spoke of Jesus death, which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw Jesus glory, and the two men that stood with him.
And it came to pass, as the men departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." (Not knowing what he said.)
While Peter thus spoke, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son: hear him." And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
And when they were come to the crowd, there came to Jesus a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, "Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and miserably suffers: for often times he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him."
Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to me." And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of the boy: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, "Why could not we cast the devil out?"
And Jesus said unto them, "Because of your unbelief: for truly I say unto you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, remove from here to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. However, this kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting."
And they departed from there, and passed through Galilee; and Jesus would not that any man should know it. For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, "The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day." But the disciples understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him. Then there arose a dispute among them, which of them should be greatest.
And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, "Does not your master pay tribute?"
He said, "Yes."
And when Peter was come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What think you, Peter? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Of their own children, or of strangers?"
Peter said unto him, "Of strangers."
Jesus said unto him, "Then are the children free? However, lest we should offend them, go
to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first comes up; and when you have opened his mouth, you shall find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and you."
