Jerusalem
And
as Jesus went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, "Jesus, you Son of David, have mercy on me."
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they called the blind man, saying unto him, "Be of good comfort, rise; Jesus calls you."
And Bartimaeus, throwing away his cloak, rose, and came to Jesus. And Jesus
said unto him, "What will you that I should do unto you?"
The blind man said unto him, "Lord, that I might receive my sight."
And Jesus said unto him, "Receive your sight: your faith has saved you." And immediately Bartimaeus received his sight, and followed Jesus, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Then Jesus, six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was
whom he raised from the dead. There they made Jesus a supper
in the house of Simon the leper
and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
Then
Mary Magdalene
a woman
which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus reclined at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment
of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus
and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet
and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.
Then said one of Jesus disciples, Judas Iscariot
(which would betray him,) "Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred Silver coins, and given to the poor?" (This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and carried what was put in it.)
And Jesus said, "Let her alone; why trouble
her? She has done a good work on me. For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you will you may do them good: but me you have not always. She has done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body to the burying."
Now when the Pharisee which had invited Jesus saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, "This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what kind of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner."
And Jesus answering said unto him, "Simon, I have something to say unto you."
And he said, "Master, say on."
And Jesus said, "There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred Silver coins, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?"
Simon answered and said, "I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most."
And Jesus said unto him, "You have rightly judged."
And he turned to Mary, and said unto Simon, "See you this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. You gave me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment.
"Therefore I say unto you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. Truly I say unto you, wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that Mary has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
And Jesus said unto her, "Your sins are forgiven."
And they that ate with him began to say within themselves, "Who is this that forgives sins also?"
And Jesus said to Mary, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
Many people of the Jews therefore knew that he was in Bethany: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; because that by reason of him many of the Jews
believed on Jesus.
On the next day many people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees, and went out to meet him, and cried, "Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord."
And when they came near to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany at the mount of Olives, Jesus sent on two of his disciples, and said unto them, "Go your way into the village
and as soon as you be entered into it, you shall find a colt tied, on which never man sat; loose him, and bring him. And if any man say unto you, Why do you this? say you that the Lord has need of him; and immediately he will send him here."
And the two disciples went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. And certain of them that stood there said unto the two, "What do you, loosing the colt?" And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
And the disciples brought the colt to Jesus, and threw their cloaks on it; and Jesus sat upon it. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strew them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, "Hosanna; blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord: Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. (All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "Tell
the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes unto you, meek, and sitting upon
a colt the foal of a donkey. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.)
And when Jesus was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, "If you had known, even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong unto your peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. For the days shall come upon you, that your enemies shall cast a trench about you, and surround you round, and keep you in on every side, and shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you know not the time of your visitation."
And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, "Who is this?"
And the multitude said, "This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. The people therefore that were with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, spread the word. For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "Perceive you how you prevail nothing? Look, the world is gone after him."
And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the evening was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
The next day, when they were come from Bethany, Jesus was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if therefore he might find any thing on it: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus
said unto it, "No man eat fruit of you hereafter forever." And the disciples heard it.
And they came to Jerusalem: And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves. " And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David"; they were very displeased.
And there were certain Greeks among those that came up to worship at the feast: The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and requested him, saying, "Sir, we would see Jesus."
Philip came and told Andrew: and
Andrew and Philip told Jesus. And Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. Truly, truly, I say unto you, except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it remains alone: but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that detests his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me, and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.
"Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify your name."
Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, "An angel spoke to him."
Jesus answered and said, "This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." This Jesus said, signifying what death he should die.
The people answered him, "We have heard out of the law that Christ continues forever: and how say you, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?"
Then Jesus said unto them, "Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walks in darkness knows not where he goes. While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light." These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
