Adam

Adam was the first man, created by God on the sixth day of creation, and placed in the Garden of Eden, and as such is the great ancestor of all mankind. His creation is described separately from that of the animals in that he was made in the "image of God." He was married to Eve. Adam failed to keep God's command not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Some of the consequences of his disobedience were death, loss of innocence, separation from God and a curse of the ground. Fortunately God already had a plan in place to overcome the effects of Adam's rebellion. Adam live 930 years.

Lessons from the life of Adam:

  • God wants people who have a free will, yet will obey Him out of love.
  • We should not blame others for our faults.
  • You cannot hide from God.
  • If we sin we have to pay the consequences.
  • God is infinitely merciful, and will delay consequences to allow His
    children a second chance.

Adam's story is told in Genesis 1:26 through Genesis 5:5. He is also mentioned in 1 Chronicles 1:l; Luke 3:38; Romans 5:14; 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45; and 1 Timothy 2:13-14.
