Asher

Asher was the eighth son of Jacob and the second son of Zilpah, the maid of Leah. Asher was born in Padan Aram where Jacob was still working as a herdsman for his father-in-law Laban. He was involved with his brothers in the plot that resulted in Joseph's slavery in Egypt. He also went with his brothers to Egypt to get food during the famine. When Jacob settled in Egypt Asher and his four sons and one daughter settled there also.
Jacob's deathbed blessing was, "Asher's food shall be rich, and he shall yield royal dainties." Centuries later the tribe of Asher was given coastal area of western Galilee, a fertile land famous for its olive groves.

Read about Asher in Genesis 30:13; 35:26; Deuteronomy 33:24; Joshua 17:10-11; Judges 5:17; 1 Chronicles 2:2; 7:30, 40; Ezekiel 48:34.
