Ehud

The Hebrew word for Ehud means, "God of praise." Ehud was a "God called" Benjaminite leader and judge during the time that the Moabite king Eglon was oppressing the Israelites. He was a left handed man and this may have made it possible to sneak a dagger into a meeting with the king and kill him. He then fled to the hill country of Ephraim and summoned the Israelites to fight against the Moabites. They killed 10,000 of the enemy as they attempted to cross the Jordan River. After the victory Ehud judged Israel and they had peace for eighty years.

Lessons from the life of Ehud:

  • We all have a real enemy (sin) to fight.
  • We need God’s help in our battles.
  • God can use something unique about us to further His cause.
  • God will answer the prayer of repentance.
  • Some situations call for drastic action.

Read about Ehud in Judges 3:12-30.
