Eleazar
In Hebrew the name Eleazar means "God has helped." Eleazar was Aarons third son by his wife, Elisheba. When his father died Moses placed Aarons robes on Eleazar and he was consecrated as the second high priest of Israel. (His two older brothers had died earlier for not taking Gods holiness seriously.) Eleazar served as the high priest during the remainder of Moses life and throughout Joshuas leadership. He helped in the allotment of Canaan among the twelve tribes of Israel. Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel and they had a son named Phinehas, who became the high priest when Eleazar died.
Lessons from the life of Eleazar:
- Its important to have good role models in preparation for a leadership position.
- We must be willing and ready to step in to a lead role that we have been trained for at a moments notice.
- God desires consistent obedience throughout out our lives.
- Concentrating on our present responsibilities is the best way to prepare for future challenges.
Eleazar is mentioned in Exodus 6:23; Leviticus 10:16-20; Numbers 3:1-4; 4:16; 16:36-40; 20:25-29; 26:1-4, 63; 27:2, 15-23; 32:2; 34:17; Deuteronomy 10:6; Joshua 14:1; 17:4; 24:33.
