Gad

Gad was the seventh son of Jacob and the firstborn of Zilpah, Leah's maid. He along with his brothers was involved in the events that lead to the slavery of Joseph. Later he was sent, with his brothers, to obtain food in Egypt where Joseph had become a leader in Pharaoh's court. When Jacob went to settle in Egypt Gad and his seven sons went along. When Jacob, on his deathbed, gave his sons a blessing he said, "Raiders shall raid Gad, but he shall raid at their heels." Centuries later the tribe of Gad was given an extensive territory east of the Jordan River. Moses said, "Gad couches like a lion-He chose the best of the land for himself."

Read about Gad in Genesis 30:11; 35:26; 46:16; 49:19; Exodus 1:4; and Deuteronomy 33:20-21.
