Levi

Levi was the third son of Jacob and Leah. His three sons are the ancestors of the three main divisions of the Levitical priesthood. Levi's descendants through his son Kohath were Moses and Aaron who became the beginning of the priestly line. The descendants of his sons Gershon and Merari became the temple servants and were called the Levites. Levi participated in the plot against Joseph and also helped Simeon kill the men of the town where his sister Diana was raped. He died in Egypt at the age of 137.

Read about Levi in Genesis 29:34; 34:25-30; 35:23; 46:11; 49:5; Exodus 1:2; 6:16; Numbers 3:17; 16:1; 26:59; 1 Chronicles 2:1; 6:1-47; and Ezra 8:18.
