Manasseh
The name Manasseh means, "causing to forget." Manasseh was Joseph's first son and helped him forget the bitter experiences of the past. His mother was Asenath, so he was half Egyptian and half Hebrew. Manasseh and his brother Ephraim were adopted by their grandfather Jacob and given status as sons. His descendants became the tribe of Manasseh. They settled on both side of the Jordan River. The tribe of Manasseh became known for its valor, and claimed two famous judges: Gideon and Jephthah.
