Naomi
Naomi in Hebrew means "my joy." She was the wife of Elimelech and the mother of Chilion and Mahlon. She moved to Moah with her husband and sons to escape a famine. Her sons married Moabite women named Ruth and Orpah. Her husband and both her sons died there. She then returned to Bethlehem, accompanied by Ruth. She advised her daughter-in-law to work in the fields of her relative, Boaz. Ruth and Boaz married and became the parents of Obed. This child became the father of Jesse, the grandfather of David, and an ancestor of Jesus.
Lessons from the life of Naomi:
- Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships can be beautiful.
- The love of God can bind relationships.
- It is important to give others freedom in their relationship with each other as well as with God.
- Despite much sorrow, Naomi remained faithful to God. We need to do the same.
