Simeon

Simeon was the second son of Jacob and Leah. He was involved in selling his brother Joseph into slavery. When his sister Diana was raped he and Levi were so angry they killed all the men of the town. Later in Egypt Joseph chose him as the hostage to be left behind as a guarantee that the brothers would return with their younger brother Benjamin. He was released when they arrived. When Jacob blessed his sons while on his deathbed he said, "Simeon and Levi are brothers; weapons of violence are their swords-I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel." Soon after the conquest of Canaan the tribe of Simeon disappeared.

Simeon's story is told in Genesis 29:33; 34:25, 30; 35:23; 42:24, 36; 43:23; 46:10; 48:5; 49:5; and Exodus 1:2; 6:15.
