The Riddle of Revelation 17.
1. Revelation 17:9-11
  1. Here is a mind that has wisdom. Revelation 13:18
  2. John had a reason for tying these two beasts together.
2. The key to this riddle is found in the first part of chapter 17.
  1. Revelation 17:1-3
    1. John is not on Patmos, but has been carried into the wilderness in vision.
    2. We must look at this vision from John's point of view, not from where we are and not from Patmos, but from the wilderness.
  2. John sees a woman riding on a scarlet colored beast. Revelation 17:8
    1. The beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
    2. Was[the past], meaning that this beast once existed.
    3. Is not[the present]. From John's point of view in the wilderness the beast "is not."
    4. Yet is[the future]. In other words, this beast which represents a nation or power, has been overthrown , but will come back!
3. The Scarlet Beast. Revelation 17:3

    6. As John is seeing these beasts, all in the past "have fallen."

    1. Communistic Atheism - beast from the pit [1798 A.D. - 1991 AD]
    2. Because of godlessness, John refers to this time as a wilderness.
    3. In vision, John is seeing the beast from this point in time. This is the reason for "one is."
  4. "One has not yet come." [Revelation 17:10]
    1. United States - Two Horned Beast [1992]

    3. A Superpower uncontested.
    4. 4. Revival of Papal Rome. Revelation 17:11. Key look at beast from John's point of view from wilderness. Eight points of identification:
  1. "is one of the seven."
  2. "The beast the was."
  3. "is not" - General Berthier took the Pope prisoner on February 15, 1798.
  4. "Is himself also the eighth.". Of the seven beasts only one could be the eight, which is Papal Rome.
  5. Had to make war with the Saints.
  6. Uniting of Church and State.
  7. Had to receive a deadly wound.
  8. Deadly would was healed.
