Description of the coming of the Lord.
1. His coming will be glorious and like lightning
  1. "For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." [Matthew 24:27]
  2. "Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ." [Titus 2:13]
2. How glorious will the coming of Christ be? "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels." [Luke 9:26]
  1. The Father's glory.
    1. Moses on Mount Sinai.
    2. The reflected glory was so bright that man could not look upon the face of Moses.
    3. "So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him." [Exodus 34:30]
  2. In Christ's glory.
    1. On the Mount of Transfiguration.
    2. "And He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light." [Matthew 17:2]
  3. In the glory of the angels.
    1. One angel at the tomb of Christ
    2. "And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightening, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men." [Matthew 28:2-4]
    3. The number of angels is unknown.
    4. "I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands." [Revelation 5:11]
    5. "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory." [Matthew 25:31]
What does the Bible tell us about the coming of Christ?
1. It will not be in secret. Matthew 24:23-26
2. It will be seen by all who are living.
  1. "So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation." [Hebrews 9:28]
  2. While they watched. Come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven. Acts 1:9-11
3. The world will be broken up. There was a great earthquake. Revelation 16:17-18, 20
4. The coming of Christ will not be silent.
  1. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent. Psalm 50:3
  2. The LORD will roar from on high. Jeremiah 25:30-31
  3. The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
Christ promised His followers.
1. Coming back to take them with Him.
  1. Let not your heart be troubled. John 14:1-3
  2. Coming in the clouds. Matthew 24:30
  3. Clouds are the angels that come back with Christ
    1. Psalm 104:3
    2. Psalm 68:17
  4. Christ will send His angels to gather all of His people. Matthew 24:31
2. There will be no second chance.
  1. Now is the accepted time . 2 Corinthians 6:2
  2. When Christ comes back it will be too late to make a decision. [Revelation 22:11-12
  3. It is given once to man to die and then the judgment.
    1. "The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!" [Jeremiah 8:20]
    2. "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." [Hebrews 9:27]
3. "Take heed that that Day does not come upon you unexpectedly." Luke 21:34-36
