Outline title: It's Time to Grow Up
|
|
|
 |
 |
|
- We have come to our last meeting.
- Many of you have mentioned how you have grown in your Christian experience.
- It's because you have spent more time with the Lord.
- Ephesians 4:15
- 2 Peter 3:18
- Joseph - An example of growth in the Lord. Genesis 49:22
- Daniel - An example from his youth. Daniel 6:10
- To grow requires certain essentials.
- Food.
- 1 Peter 2:2
- Find the time to eat.
- Daily. Acts 17:11
- I've decide if I can find the time to eat physically, I can find time to eat spiritually. If I can't find the time to spend with the Lord, I don't eat physically.
- It's through the Word of God that we overcome. The Scriptures are a defense against sin. Psalm 119:11
- By the Scriptures Christ met temptations in the wilderness.
- Matthew 4:4. "It is written"
- Matthew 4:7 "It is written"
- Matthew 4:10. "It is written"
- It's through the Word of God that we become acquainted with Jesus. Job 22:21
- Must not drink just milk.
- 1 Corinthians 3:2
- Hebrews 5:13-14
- When a tree is young, a child can pull it out of the ground, but give it a few years until it becomes a great oak, then many men with all their strength cannot move that tree.
- Strip-mining - Just turning over the surface of the ground.
- How to study God's Word.
- Never study without prayer. Useless without the Holy Spirit. John 6:13
- Learn simple things. Deep things will come from the Spirit of God.
- Read the Scriptures for your own soul.
- Read slowly.
- Try to understand what God's Word is saying.
- Take the Bible for just what it says.
- Verse by verse.
- To breathe spiritually is to pray.
- Prayer is like talking to a friend.
- When a man or woman is looking for a companion, you might say to them, "What are you looking for?" And they say," I'm looking for someone who is gentle, kind, patient, loving, non-condemning, and always says the right thing, is always there when I need them, never makes a mistake." You say, "Well good luck! There is no one like that. But let's say there was. Would you be interested in becoming acquainted?" Jesus is all those things and more. So why shouldn't I get to know Him? How am I going to get acquainted?
- By spending time with Him. Some people you can't get acquainted with because you can never get close enough to know them. But this is not the case with Jesus. He says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from, Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." [ Matthew 11:29-30]
- Jesus is a friend. Proverbs 18:24
- Types of Prayer
- Confession.
- Intercession
- Thanksgiving
- Praise
- All these must be the results of relationship
- Exercise
- The need for balance.
- A giant's head on a dwarf's body doesn't look right.
- A Christian life without witnessing is out of balance.
- Witnessing the natural results. Look at Joseph. Genesis 49:22
- Drinking from the well.
- Psalm 1:3
- Drink until your cup runs over. Psalm 23:5; John 4:14
- An outgrowth of the relationship.
- Witnessing means telling what you have seen, heard and experienced.
- Jeremiah 20:9
- Our witness must be subjective. Most of the time we witness objectively, arguing doctrine. But people need to know we have been with Jesus before they hear about doctrine. But the problem is that most people don't' hear anything from us. We are just quiet.
- John 1:45-46
- 2 Corinthians 3:2
- The Bible says our salvation is tied to our witness. Romans 10:8-11
- Will you take the time to become acquainted with Jesus?
